Birth Record from Fellbach, Rems-Murr-Kreis
« on: Saturday 01 March 14 23:04 GMT (UK) »
My husband's grandmother was born in Germany but we do not know who her father was.  Her mother was Bertha Neef born 16 Oct 1865.  She had a daughter, Bertha, born 12 Apr 1886.  I ordered the records from the FHL and I found Bertha (mother) and all of her siblings but the tapes ended at 1873. I don't see anything listed after that and am wondering if any of the records are online?  We would really like to find the birth record hoping that the father is listed even if they were not married.  Bertha came to America with her daughter, Bertha, around 1888.
Place of birth was Fellbach, Rems-Murr-Kreis.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to find this record.

Most church books were filmed in the 1970ties. The cut off time is 100 years. You could write to the parish and ask for a copy of the entry in the Christening Book with all the extra remarks.

From 1.1.1876 the state took over registrations of births, marriages and deaths. The births registration may not contain the name of the father.

Here is a list of persons from Fellbach with the name Neef  who emigrated. http://www.thomas-scharnowski.de/fbausw/fbn.htm

Peonie-
Thank you, I did receive the birth certificate from the link you provided.  They listed the child's grandparents as the parents.  Have you ever heard of this being done when the child was illegitimate?

The link to the family tree was also part of the family.  I have tried to reach the owner of the tree but no response yet.

I appreciate your help - it was great!
Deb

Hi Deb,

the registrar puts down what ever he was told. So it is possible. I went to school with a girl who was brought up by her grand parents and never knew that her sister was actually her mother. No idea what was on her birth certificate. You can try to get a copy of the christening entry from the church book and get lucky. Here are the email addresses of the church in Fellbach. I don't know if the protestant churches keep the christening books in the parish. If not they can tell you where to get the information from. http://www.fellbach-evangelisch.de/ansprechpartner/gemeindebuero/

Hope the family tree owner gets back to you.

there is also a Freida Neef b 1887 Fellbach,Rems-Murr-Kreis,Württemberg
http://en.geneanet.org/search/?name=neef&country=DEU&place=fellbach&ressource=arbre
only 1 result for Neef in Fellbach out of 5,000 tree results - so I would think somehow connected to Bertha ??
