I transcribed for a while. These are the 'rules' to follow.

That's why on 1911 census the niece of the Head is named as "Sily Treva" even though the script is fairly clear ::)
That doesn't come up on FindMyPast or Anc...

Somehow my message got trunkated. What I meant is for part of my research one entry has listed a household member who is named Sily Treva
Shropshire: Bailey, Cadman, Chilton, Garbett, Pritchards
Yorkshire: Chilton, Cogan, Cooper, Farrar, Hammond, Nickless/Nicholls, Silkstone
Ireland: Brannan, Cogan, O'Connor

Neither FindMyPast or Anc has a transcription of Sily Treva for the 1911 census though...
FindMyPast has 317 transcriptions of Sily for a first name though; Only one for TREVA as the surname (and that's part of a hyphenated name).

Most Sily's are probably Lily's and in most cases it's probably down to the transcriber not understanding the letter forms as a capital L in a (not particularly) fancy hand can look like a narrow capital S.

Sorry I probable should have put more detail in my first reply. Full name is mis-transcribed as Sily Treva Pearce (if you simply put Sily Treva in the First & Middle name box it comes top). Haven't looked into the person, currently looking into her aunts father which is interesting. He's the Head of household in 1881, but absent in 1891 when his wife has remarried (the lodger from 1881!).

As far as I know the 1911 (& possibly others) on Anc****y are NOT transcribed by humans but by electronic scanning device.

Do not ask me to explain as I can't........I read it somewhere (probably on here) ? :-)

Ireland:- Cullen, Flannigan (Derry), Donahoe/Donaghue (variants) (Cork), McCrate (Tipperary), Mellon, Tol(l)and (Donegal & Tyrone)

Hi Mike,

Didn't pay much attention at the time & only remembered what I read with reading this thread.

However, have just done a search & I had picked it up wrong (was a fleeting glimpse at the time).

Here is an example of what I was actually reading although not this actual article but it will at least answer the question & my reasoning :-)
