Albert Patrick Tarrant b1925 Ireland
« on: Tuesday 04 March 14 12:01 GMT (UK) »
I hope someone can help!

My husband's grandfather is Albert Patrick Tarrant, born in Ireland around 1925.

All we know about him is he married a Theresa Johnson in 1948 and they lived in Nottingham where Theresa was from. They divorced and from there we have no idea what happened to him.

My husband and his Aunt would love to know where he was from in Ireland and try to trace that side of their family, but I have no idea where to start with Irish family history research.

Thanks in advance  :)

He's not showing on the birth index
Just a suggestion could he have been born illegitimate and therefore registered under his mothers maiden name.
Do you have any details of his parents from his marriage cert.

edit what religion and fathers occupation.

I am waiting on the marriage cert, so hopefully that will help shed some light!

We really know nothing about him as he and Theresa divorced when their two children were young and they never saw him again and can't remember much about him.

Thanks for looking.

Dont know much about English certs but know Irish ones only show fathers name meaning we have to source church records for the marriage to get mothers name.
Have you tried searching electoral rolls after 1948 he may have stayed in the area if he had a steady job.

English certs show mother and father unless purposefully omitted.
Good idea about the electoral register!

I wonder if he was born in Northern Ireland - The BMD civil rg.index available online at Family search and Ancestry  at present does not show N. Ireland births after 1922. GRONI is putting their index online shortly and it might be worthwhile waiting for it.

Thanks all for your help.

I have the marriage cert now and surprise, surprise - no father for Albert!

They were however married in a Roman Catholic church called Church of Our Lady of St Patrick in Nottingham and I now know he was a motor mechanic, so a couple of little clues.

Maybe when the GRONI index is online I might find something.
