Finding Olive
« on: Wednesday 05 March 14 08:06 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Olive Clover born Maidstone Kent abt 1891.
Cannot find  Birth for her on any site, Ancestry, Find my past or Family Search.
she is on 1901 Census living with an Aunt in Boreham Essex.
Olive then goes to Liverpool as a Domestic servant and in 1911 has an illegitimate son William.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat.

Reading "between the lines" of entries saved to an online tree, this could well relate to the birth given on Ancestry as an Alice Olive "D" Clover in 1891. Though there is a baptism for an Alice Olive "Bagmore" Clover in London on Ancestry, only a mother is given an Alice Clover.

I'll just add:   Anne CLOVER - I believe she was nee Ann DAVEY and married William CLOVER:
Jun Qtr 1860 Chelmsford, 4a, 236 (I think, she's been incorrectly indexed as 4a, 256).

Olive's later POB as Chatham Essex, appears to mix  up the 2 places (Essex where she grew up?) and Chatham, Kent - near Maidstone - where she perhaps, thought she was born?

It's possible, Anne was Olive's 'Grand Aunt', that one of Anne's siblings is the grandparent (rather than parent) of Olive! And it's also possible, Anne was only the Aunt-(or Grand-Aunt)inlLaw of Olive, meaning Anne's husband was the bloodline.

It's not clear if Denise already knows about the CLOVER family and is trying to fit Olive in to the right place, or if she has details of Olive from William's birth onward? For example, did she marry or her death?

Cheers

I know nothing about her apart from the fact she was Williams mother.

Hi Denise,

Did she raise William after his birth?  What can you tell us about him, that may lead to more information about her?

If we can try to find out if William  had any siblings, where he was raised, if she married (did he have a stepfather?), if William ever mentioned family on his mother's side, if he married - did it name a father?, where she may lived, where she might have died and so on - every little bit helps!

Cheers  ;D

Hello Denise

There is this marriage but can’t tell you whether it’s your Olive Clover

Sep 1915 Fulham vol 1a page 920 Olive CLOVER to Peter W Mitchell

If you think it’s the correct person you would need to purchase the marriage certificate from GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp to see more details

possible children
surname MITCHELL mother’s maiden CLOVER
registered in Hammersmith & Islington between 1916 - 1938

have not named 5 females as I do not know if they are living take a look at FreeBMD
link below and see if there are any names which maybe familiar
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

As Ambly says every little bit of extra info. however small may help  :)

Thank you all for your suggestions which I have already tried.
The key thing here is that she was Born in Maidstone Kent, not London, but still cannot find reference to this without going to Kent records office.
As I live in Wiltshire, I was hoping to find some information before making visit my last stand.
William Walter Owen Clover was born 15 Nov 1911 @ Brownlow Infirmary Liverpool (Workhouse)
No father recorded on birth certificate. Then given to a Family Named Walters /Walton ? to be fostered in Primrose Hill Chelmsford Essex.
He remained there but was never Adopted. He Trained as a Plasterer and later Joined the Army.
He had a good care ???er in the Army and reached the Rank of Regimental Sergeant Major.
After retiring from the Army he became Football Manager for Dover United leading them to 'Cup' Winners in the 1960.
on the Marriage Certificate for Olive & Peter Mitchell she has put the Father as William Clover 'Brickmaker  Deceased.
My Thought was that she may be the illegitimate daughter of William Clover and brought up by him & his wife Anne ?
