German nobility, reached a dead end at my great grandfather...
« on: Monday 10 March 14 23:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Basically, Im danish, but I have a quite rare German name which was linked to a big family of nobility in Germany. My dad said that one of our ancestors had immigrated from Germany to Denmark at some point  we think in the late 18th, although it could have been ealier. I have been tracing my genealogy back in terms of male members on my fathers side of the family to my great granddad and his brother, however Ive hit a dead end it seems. My great grand dads brother only record (atleast of what I have been able to find) have been a registration a social housing complex where he moved from apartment to apartment within the complex, however there is no link from any of these addresses to his parents. I have searched church records but they only come up with two people sharing my last name, who are probably my ancestors, but there is a gap between them and him of about 50 years. I know I have been quite vague in my description but I would like not to post my name on a public post, but if someone was interested in helping me more privately I will naturally fill in the blanks, thanks alot :)

Hi  anond00d,

here are sites which might help you:

http://home.foni.net/~adelsforschung/inhalt.htm
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_deutscher_Adelsgeschlechter

You can also go to google.de and type your name and see what's coming up.

Hope this helps, Peonie
