It seems strange for Hannah Lawrence and Stephen to have married in 1889 -- and not had a child until 1902. According to the 1911 census 'Jim' is their only child.

Zoe -- have you got his birth certificate, as I am just wondering if he belonged to another family member and was taken on by Hannah and Stephen?

Just supposition at this point.

That's just what I was wondering I see Stephen is a patient in a hospital in 1911.

Zoe Just because Hannah said he was her son it doesn't mean the statement was true.

The birth is what you need to find, I can't find it at the moment.

I cannot find his birth or a baptism either at the moment.

If he is not the natural son of Hannah and Stephen - then all other events such as marriage and burial may have taken place under his ACTUAL name. We don't know what that is at the moment unless we can find some other 'clue'.

What a great find!

Might be a good idea to get that marriage certificate to see what name is given for the groom's father. That will either confirm or eliminate James N Lawrence 'from enquiries'.

Strangely, I still can't see a birth registration.

I haven't checked to see if this one is in the 1911.
