John Forrest emigrated from Scotland to Australia

On illegitimate child's birth certificate, what was John Forrest's occupation?

(I would still like to know what leads you to believe he went to Australia?)

mirran & I have been working together trying to find about  john forrest. so little information about this chap. I was told that john forrest died in Brisbane 1912. in Scotland he was a ploughman. don't know how accurate this death is.

So John going to Australia is a family story rather than you having documented proof? And who told you about him dying in 1912 in Brisbane? [just trying to ascertain the sources of this information  ]

I can't see a burial in Brisbane in 1912 on the Council website. (there is one in 1911 who appears to be buried with family - age unknown unfortunately) ... of course this doesn't mean that he wasn't buried elsewhere ...

No John Forrest died in Brisbane in 1912. A Percy John FORREST died country Qld and a John FORREST died country Qld both in 1912.
The latter is
John Forrest Ref# C1301 Father ROBERT Mother Rachel MULLER.

You could check and see if a marriage happened in Scotland for them or buy the cert?

thank you so much for finding john with so little information. the only information I have  about him is he was born carluke Scotland circa 1844. he died Victoria st. Brisbane 5.9.1912.
would love to know when he travelled to Australia & what he did over there.

So do you have the death certificate? If so are his parent's named and does it say how long he had been in Queensland?

As there are a lot of John Forrests around at the time, I am just slightly concerned that this may not be your John Forrest.

How do you know that the John Forrest who fathered the illegitimate child in Lanarkshire is the same John Forrest that died in Brisbane in 1912?

It is likely that you will never know what brought this John Forrest to Australia. His immigration may give an indication, for example if he travelled with many other Scottish labourers, then maybe they were all brought out for some project or other - sponsor or employer may be named (though I wouldn't count on it  ).

Electoral rolls may give a location and occupation ....

BUT. What do you know that leads you to believe that your John Forrest travelled to Australia? Family stories?

There is a John Forrest age 30 arriving in Brisbane on the ship Renfrewshire 20 Sept 1875.(He was single and travelled alone)
There is a John Forrest age 44 arriving in Brisbane on the ship Dacca 12 Nov 1888.(He was born Lanarkshire and travelled with possible wife Elizabeth and 3 children)

Does the 1912 Brisbane death indicate it may have been one of these men?
(Of course there could be many more who arrived elsewhere in the country and moved to Qld at some stage, or arrived Qld and moved to another State)

Well that is not the John Forrest that had parents Robert and Rachel!!
The one I found died, according to the Queensland Register of BDM's DIED in COUNTRY Qld not in the city of Brisbane.
As Ruskie say's do you have the cert and how do you know this is the correct John FORREST, there are quite a few on the Qld BDM site.
