The person you mentioned is still alive, her yob is 1937

You can search the death index upto 2006 on Ancestry with a date of birth, there is one entry with that date of birth but the maiden name is wrong.

The other things to consider, she may have used her middle name instead of her first name.

The London electoral registers are online upto 1965 but she doesn't appear as she was under 21.

I have not yet found the Grants in 1960-1965 but am still looking.

Do you know when Alexander died?

You could check his address at death on the paper electoral registers at the archives to see the other eligible voters living there.

My friend has the Steddon cert  - no match sadly.

There are a couple of things to look into further.....

The birth of the 2nd child in 1953, obtain the birth cert from the GRO then you will know if she is related and what her full name and date of birth is.

We can speculate about things, maybe she was adopted, maybe she was disabled and put into residential accomation, maybe she used her midedle name as her first etc. Get the cert.

Have a look at the probate calendars to see if Mary Grant left a will after her death in 1980.

Have a look at the electoral registers to see is someone else was living with Mary prior to her death.

I have been emailed the certificates. The addresses on them are:

1942 -  Alexander and Mary's marriage - Burncroft Avenue, Enfield.
1947 -  J A Grants birth - Burncroft Avenue, Enfield.
1973 -  Alexander and Mary's Divorce - Carleton Road , Cheshunt, Herts
1980 -  Mary Death - Windmere Ave, Finchley, N3

I have ordered the birth cert for Bertha to see if she is indeed another daughter.

Should mention on the marriage cert there are no parents listed for Mary aged 17.
