« on: Tuesday 01 April 14 21:52 BST (UK) »
Hi Looking to locate Information for Hamilton Levenson  My Father Hinted the Name was Changed from Brown Browne Because it was to common But cannot find anywhere to confirm the change.
Hamilton Levenson
Born About 1850
County Down
North Ireland.
Possibly Served in the 13 Hussars.
All this could be incorrect as family was very unhelpful with Information.
My Father Clarence Levenson Passed away 1967 and would not talk about any of this

Thanks for any assistance

From PRONI e-catalogue
PRONI Reference   Date(s)   Title/Description
D619/26/B/29   12 June 1828   Peel to Anglesey about the suitability of
D619/26/B/30   15 June [1828]   Peel to Anglesey replying to Anglesey's
D638/12/29   16 June 1691-26 June 1691   Camp of Ballimoor. Has resolved to march   . I noted uses three spellings Leusson's (Leveson) regiments, Lewston's (Levenson)

I think these are probably red herrings for your search
Hamilton Levenson 1848-1916 in the 1911 census he is HAMILTON LEVENSON
Birth Year 1849 Age   62 Born COUNTY DOWN IRELAND RESIDENT
Head of Household  Occupation CARETAKER SIMON LANGTON BOY'S SCHOOL
Address 107 BROAD STREET CANTERBURY
My note that phrase COUNTY DOWN IRELAND RESIDENT is strange to find in the census for 1911.  His birth needs to be checked on GRONI

In ancestry Ireland there is a MARY ANN LEVESON marrying in 1791   with her father JAMES present in a Co Antrim place that includes Belfast

Hi,
Another possibility. Hamilton LEVINGSTON married Margaret Thompson in Waringstown Church of Ireland, Lurgan District, Co Down on 19 Jan 1872. The fathers' names were William Levingston and James Thompson.

Another speculative possibility, there is the following reference (source not given) to Hamilton's father being called Thomas:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/brown/messages/41248.html

If you haven't got Hamilton's 1883 marriage to Emily Willey, then, as advised on the other thread, you really ought to, for it should provide the father's name.

If it is Thomas, be aware of the following false lead in my notes (ie. I have a County Down Brown in my family, the following turned out not to be related).  Namely, a Hamilton Brown baptised in 1848 in Comber, father Thomas was a gardener (the occupation of your Hamilton Levenson in the 1891 England census), the mother's forename was Isabella.
