Coroners Inquest
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 20:10 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know where a copy of a Coroners Inquest can be obtained.  Inquest was in 1916 Trent Vale.

If not which newspaper would have the report and where that could be found?

Hi,

If the file has survived the place to try would be the county archives:

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/leisure/archives/homepage.aspx

They can also advise which newspapers would carry reports and might have the originals or microfilm on site.

Good Luck!

Trentvale Stoke-on-Trent? Interesting as that is where I live. What is it to do with I might know. Otherwise it would most likely be reported in the Sentinel newspaper.
Stafford Archives might also have a copy of the report

alas it appear all pre-1981 coroners reports were destroyed.
And the Sentinel is a bit hit and miss

Thank you both for your replies.

The case was of a drowning of a 12 year old girl at Springfields Trent Vale on 11th August 1916.  Inquest held 14th August 1916.

Having read the other reply it looks I will be out of luck finding it.

Thanks again

The Coventry Evening Telegraph of Monday 14 August 1916 mentions the incident though not the inquest:  "Lost Ball Causes Two Deaths.  Mrs Lucy Sherwin and her twel-year-old daughter Caroline, were drowned in a pond at Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent.  The little girl lost a ball and fell into the water while trying to recover it.  The mother was drowned in an unsuccessful effort to save her daughter."

It was also in the Times.

http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/33261986/ you need to subscribe to see the actual page and the OCR transcript is a little "erratic"
