I am looking for any information on my grandad William Macleod born isle of Lewis, Stornaway? In 1897, he died 1959 in New Zealand.  His mother was a McDonald. He was as in the Royal Merchant Navy. He settled in NZ where he married my nana, Vera Cooper from New Zealand. They had 7 children - Ailsa, Kenneth, William, Rita, Lawrence, Dolina and Norman.  Hope someone can help me

I don't know if it will be of any help to you, but there's a really good forum called "Talking Scot" where there are a lot of very helpful and well-informed people. As with "Rootschat" people, you may well get more information that you could reasonably expect to get for free! There are also some trees on "Ancestry" where, at a quick glance, you may find help.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
