Elizabeth Caunt
« on: Friday 11 April 14 11:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for an Elizabeth Caunt on the 1841 census was she in the Manchester or surrounding area? Her parents William and Mary (only) were in Gorton. Elizabeth bp 1815 Balderton, Notts, married 1843 in Salford to Charles French Curtis(s). Surname could be Count, Cairns or Cannt.
I have other census details. May be with one of her other sisters, Mary or Sarah or Eleanor.
Any help appreciated,
Megran.

heatherjulie,
Many thanks for the marriage details of Elizabeth Caunt and Charles French Curtis.
Regards,
Megran.

PS Perhaps if the sisters are in the Pendleton area their name is a 'new' spelling/ transcription.

Hi Megran

There is an Elizabeth 'Ganns' as transcribed by Ancestry in 1841, living in Pendleton, born out of county c. 1816.
Looking at the image, I would have said Elizabeth 'Gaunt' , a possible corruption of Caunt?

Terrible quality image, it might be Jenners Lane, Ash Field, Pendleton? Elizabeth is a servant with a family called Withington.

Not sure that's much help really! but see what you think
 :) Barbara

Hi Barbara,
Thank you so much for your reply. This does seem a very good possibility. I will check out the address, may be a big house. (Not on An***) Will also try this variation(s) of the name for the other sisters on the various indexes.
Many thanks again,
Megran.

heatherjulie,
Yes I now think this is her. Although the 1841 census the age is near enough and she wasn't born in Lancashire. Hopefully one down three to go. Will keep digging.
Many Thanks,
Regards,
Megran.

Found the correct address in the 1841 directory. It should be Ash Field or Ashfield, Tanner's Lane, Pendleton. More than one surname listed for Ashfield, so maybe a small road or estate rather than one big house.
