Birth cert lookup

hi I have looked for a birth cert at bdm in kent   for my great grand father George king. from Sutton valence. born 1856.  1868. son of George king . they told me they could not find one. to try the parish he came from. if some one could help me as I live in Ireland.  George's parish was church of England. need to find his dad. and his dad. to finish family tree would like some paper work. thank you if you can help

First of all, which is the year of birth - 1856 or 1868, you have mentioned both.
Secondly, what is the source of this - have you found him on all subsequent censuses and is his year of birth consistant on all?
Thirdly, who are "they" who couldnt find it?
And, have you looked on FreeBMD for the birth?

According to Phillimore's Atlas, Sutton Valence is in Hollingbourne reg district, but no George King births are showing up on www.freebmd.org.uk on/around/between the dates you give.

I think I've found them in 1871 census at Sutton Valence.

I can only suggest that, altough civil registration started in 1837, it wasn't compulsory for parents to registers births until 1875. Prior to that, the onus ws on the registrar to go around his district and collect the registrations so there may not be a birth cert to find.

So a baptism is most probably the only information you are likely to find.

The registers have been deposited at Maidstone Archives, they don't appear to ber on the IGI.

There is also a baptism ,where he's transcribed as George KEEN Sage 

Son of Eliza Sage,in East Sutton Kent,on 21st June 1857.
