Henry McDermott, born c 1841 moved to Dudley West Midlands from Cork with his wife Catherine.  Later his father Martin came over from Ireland.  Looking for info on where they came from exactly and possible lineage going further back.

Hello and welcome to RootsChat.

Where did you find the information that Martin came from Cork??

On census I can only find his p.o.b. as Ireland -likewise with Henry??

There a couple of trees online (unsourced)which show Martin Patrick McDermott -one has 1800-1876 the other has 1799 - 1876 Both just give p.o.b. as Ireland
wife Catherine Mary Glyn her p.o.b. as just Ireland
Henry Mc Dermott's p.o.b. is given as Ireland - but there is a picture of him on one tree

Maybe this will help

Unless I've got the wrong family the only Henry McDermott b. c. 1841 Ireland had wife Sarah b. Dudley.
With them are Grandparents Martin & Catherine McDermott.
Henry married Sarah Williams 1859 Dudley.
His father listed as Martin so the 1861 info must be wrong re his Grandparents.
Was he married before?

Thanks  Suz/jim1 for the reply.  This is the family that I descend from.  I am finding this site very difficult to follow - that was a photo of Henry on the left of the screen??  Where did that come from?   I can't remember exactly where the Cork info came from, maybe someone else on Genes Reunited or my sister-in-law who has done a lot of the research.  But thanks for taking time to look this up for me.  Would be very happy to get a bit further back.  Again many thanks, don't think we had Martin's wife's maiden name so that is a small step.

This is what you said:

So did he marry a Catherine in Ireland?

You are right.  I am getting confused with all the Margarets, Catherines and Sarah's.  Thus it was Martin McDermott, born c1800 who was married to a Catherine Glyn.  But his son Henry married a Sarah(?) Williams who was the daughter of John Williams and Margaret Clynn.  I am supposing here that Margaret and Catherine were sisters (similar names).  Got even more confusing as Sarah Williams seems to have had a younger sister called Catherine who lived with them later.  And Henry had a older sister called Margaret.  Confused - yes.
