LYON & POWELL families. What is the connection?

Hi Folks,

Back in the 1880's Edward Lyon from Cheetham, Prestwich married Annie Powell from Leeds.

The 1911 records show that Harry POWELL and family lived at Chorlton Upon Medlock.

I am wondering why would the POWELL family come to Lancashire. Was it for work or for family connections. They all ended up in Australia more than 100 years ago but they still kept in touch with family in Chorlton. Just hope some members of the LYON family are still alive to help me work it out.

Do you have Annie in a census before she married Edward? If so, what was her father's occupation?

Where did you find the information re places of birth?

There are some trees on Ancestry (seemingly well researched) that have Annie born in County Clare, Ireland?

Hi Folks,

Many thanks for your kind help and fast replies to date. I have all the information you have sent and a lot lot more. I am trying to get down to the nitty gritty of the Chorlton Upon Medlock family connection.

Seems dear Annie told a couple of porkies about being named GREEN and a widow but it is certainly our Annie Powell.

Annie lived at 67 Portland Street and 28 Argyle road prior to marriage but this does not shed any light on the Medlock connection.

I am hoping that someone from the Lyon family will log on to this site one day and put and end to the mystery and help sort out who are the people in all our photos here in Melbourne.
