Mary Willcocks from Slindon born around 1804ish. Married in 1827 London, George Redman.

I am seeking any information on her, starting with birth and parents.

Have posted topics on George but am now concentrating on her. I can't find any birth records ???

Thanks Karen and Ciderdrinker.

That looks like her, although spelling is little different. On marriage cert it's Mary Willcocks. Must be her, I know sometimes names were spelled differently.

Much appreciated.

John Willcocks and Elizabeth Newington are my G G G grandparents.Their son James, who married Ruth Martin are  my GG grandparents.RThis James is Maria's sister,as is Francesca(Frances),baptised 5/4/1801 so it looks like Elizabeth was pregnant when they got married on 9/2/1801.

John Willcocks(born circa 1781) was the son of James Willcocks and Susan Nyren who married on 7/11/1774 in Slindon.

I think James is the son of Joseph Willcocks, but there are a few John and James in Slindon at that time that I'm having difficulty with how they are related.

There is a lot of info on the Nyren family ,going back to 1600.Can give you more info if you would like. All this makes us loosely related I think?

There are some family trees for Mary Willcocks online. None of these shows the details of her parents however.

One of them has a number of photos of the marriage certificate, plus family members.

It appears she remarried after George Redman died in 1852. Details given are that she married William Leavy in Westhampnett, Sussex in 1860.

Jo.

Thanks Jo,

Yes I have that. The tree probably belongs to my 3rd cousin Val in Canada!  I gave her the marriage cert and the photo's.

Also to Helwill,  I am not sure if John and Elizabeth are Mary's parents but looks promising.  However it says their daughter was Maria but names do get changed.  also the spelling of Willcocks varies. We could possible be related somehow!  I am not too sure about any of this though.

I have mainly been researching the male Redmans from my Dad back because it is easier, just thought I would try a few Grandmothers as well!

I think it is the same Mary because she was baptized as a Roman Catholic and they used the latin names i.e Maria. She is on the IGI as child of Joannis and Annae ie John and Elizabeth. The name of Willcox , Wilcox and Willcocks varies from one census to the other and one family event to another because they were possibly illiterate and so couldn't spell their own name.
