Many thanks everybody - I think I like Trish's idea best although it still seems a bit late (1808).  The censuses of both 1851 & 1861 suggest 1804 but they could be wrong.  Thanks for all your efforts.

May I ask Bunnygirl, where did you find the marriage of Henry Jarvis & Frances Ball dated 31 March 1823 in Leicester?  I would like to verify the source if that's possible. Please let me know - many thanks
