Looking for Percy James Humphrey born 1907
« on: Thursday 24 April 14 16:32 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping someone can help.....

I'm looking for my great uncle Percy James Humphrey born 11 October 1907, but I don't know where, father was Albert Humphrey.  He married Selina Blampey in Hull in 1933, and lived there until his death in 1972, aged 64.

He was in the merchant navy, and was enlisted onto the arctic convoys in WW2.

I understand he as from the London area originally, but I have no firm evidence of this.

Many thanks

Thanks so much Rosie99.

I'd tried looking him up on the merchant navy records, but the only Percy Humphrey was from Rainham, which is nowhere near Wycombe?  It's the merchant navy records I'm really interested in, I'm trying to find his arctic convoy service records.

:D

WW2 records are still held by the ministry of Defence.  These links from the National Archives may help

Records can be obtained from the veterans agency for about £30

Did he live in Pearson Avenue, Hull  :-\

The Hull Daily Mail 7 Feb 1948 has a Percy Humphrey of that address pleading guilty to stealing a (damaged) can of sardines from a salvage dump for his cat. The case was dismissed as it was a first offence.  ;D
