Bruce Philip Holliday - WW1
« on: Friday 25 April 14 11:09 BST (UK) »
Have been researching BP Holliday and see that he was sent to France in his battalion 2nd Worcs in 1916 where he sadly died but how do I find out when he joined up?  Anyone know if these records exist?

Welcome to Rootschat

His British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 are on Ancestry but I cant see anything else. Only a small percentage of records actually survive, so his may not be there.  I see he is described as

Rank:   Private
Regiment:   Worcestershire Regiment
Battalion:   3rd Battalion
Number:   31437

Yes, have his records - they state him as being in 3rd but was in 2nd Battalion.  Going to visit his grave in Rouen in couple of weeks.  I know he died in Delville Wood on 16 August 1916 but wanted to check when he joined up ... as said, this may have been lost in the mists of time. Thanks anyway ;)

Around 70% of WW1 records were destroyed in the Blitz in WW2.

2nd. Batt. Worcs. were part of the 5th Brigade 2nd. Div. who fought at Delville Wood 15/7/1916-3/9/1916 as a phase of the Battle of the Somme.
The 2nd. Batt. were amongst the first to be sent to France as part of the BEF in Aug. 1914.
He doesn't have the 14/15 Star so didn't enter a theatre of war until 1916.
This is probably when he joined.
Oops I see you already know that.
