Harry Furness at Fulbourn Asylum 1919-1935
« on: Monday 28 April 14 05:30 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on my mothers uncle HARRY FURNESS (sometimes spelled Furniss). He was born in 1893 at Cherry Hinton and served in WWI. On 7/21/1919 he was transferred to Fulbourn Asylum from a war hospital in Glamorgan, so I am assuming he was injured. He was soldier # 241238.  He died at Fulborn  6/15/1935, so it must have been a permanent issue with his mental health if he was at Fulbourn for 16 years.  I would like to know more about his stay at Fulbourn.

Can I check if this is the correct person as it has a different regiment number

Harry Furness Age at enlistment:   21
Birth Parish: c1893 Cherry Hinton Cambridgeshire
Document Year:   1914
Regimental Number:   1829
Regiment Name:   1st Battalion Cambridgeshire Regiment

quick check of the document couldn't see any mention of Glamorgan or Fulbourn

there's a Typed letter from Capt. Beck (1st Cambridgeshire Regiment ) 23 2 1915
stating H Furness was temporarily medically unfit for Military Service on mobilization.
He reported for rejoining. He was medically examined - certificate states however he is now unfit for military service

Next of kin mother Mrs Maggie Furness, 487 ? Cambridge

1901 census there's a Harry Furness born 1893 Cherry Hinton
parents named as Thomas & Margaret

He died at Fulborn  6/15/1935, so it must have been a permanent issue with his mental health if he was at Fulbourn for 16 years.

I would like to know more about his stay at Fulbourn.

Harry Furness died 15 Jun 1935 Administration (with Will) Peterborough
Probate Date:   17 Oct  to C Brown Widow

Don't know if any of these links will be helpful

Here’s a Story about Fulbourn 1858 - 1983, perhaps it will give an insight to the Hospital
