Yes, the Priest in Melbourne might (a big might, so don't get hopes up) be able to suggest ways of tracing Church records.

So the grandparents married in Russia, and two of their children were born, married and died in Russia?

Once in Australia were the grandparents able to keep in touch with these two children and their  grandchildren who remained in Russia?

Did the grandparents come to Australia with any other children? Presumably they were too old to have produced any more in Australia?

Not that the answers to any of these questions will help you at all, but I'm just curious.  ;)

I know there is an Australian Russian 'magazine' published which may have been of help in locating family here, or perhaps someone could have advised you about the availability of records in Russia, However, this magazine is just about to cease publication so unfortunately cannot be of any help to you.

Have you tried contacting an archives, town hall or similar in Blagoveschensk? They might be able to point you in the right direction to finding births of Ivan and Anna which may lead to clues about Vlas? Of course it is possible that no records survive even if they once did exist.

Yippee - one small step.

I just found the death for Vlas in Queensland. Mistranscribed as Blass Bessmertny Died on 8 Aug 1933 . Also found the death details for his wife.

His father shown as Ephrem Theodor and mother shown as Ephimia Pavlovna Kormievskya

I suppose that is  Ephrem Theodor Bessmertny

Hi Ruskie

Thanks for all the input.  I think one son came to Oz with them.

I will follow it all up - keep your fingers crossed for us.

That is good news Noells. Looks like the right person.  :)
I was just about to ask you where the Bessmertnys arrived and lived.  :)

Presumably that one son would be your friend's father?

(keep in mind that the information from death certificates can sometimes be wrong - in this case it looks like the father Ephrem is correct. Do you know if the mother was Ephimia? Sounds awfully similar to Ephrem.  ;))

Efimiya is a female name and her father would be Pavel Kormievsky.
