Looking for information on John Collins seems he join this Battalion, he was born in approx. 1830. He had a daughter Mary Ann who died in Sth Hobart Australia on 4th May 1911. Was a friend of John Beattie-Holt in the same Battalion. They were stationed at Mullingar and Curragh Camp Ireland and was probably in Fermoy in 1860.

I cannot find a regiment called this.. The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry was formed in 1881 by the merging of the 43rd (Monmouth) Regiment and the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment. Both were in India in the period stated - but they would have kept a Depot in the UK, and both were single battalions. The Ox and Bucks had two battalions, after 1881.

The 14th (Bedfordshire) Regiment and the 16th (Buckinghamshire) Regiments swapped county affiliations in 1809. The 14th acquired a 100 men from Buckinghamshire. The 14th (Buckinghamshire) Regiment kept that title 1809 to 1876.

Just in case there was also an 85th (Bucks Volunteers) Light Infantry Regiment.

There was a Private John Collins of 2nd Battalion 14th Foot in New Zealand in 1861 (Napier, Auckland & Otahuhu) per the transcriptions in the 1861 Army Index, which has two entries for him. Possibly there were two soldiers of that name: one has the number 520, the other 530.

Thanks for your replies.  Shaunj has tracked him down for me in NewZealand in 1861. I know he went there to fight in the Maori wars, 1860 to 1866,
thank you all for tour efforts.
