Jane Dewar - Boston Passenger List
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 12:06 BST (UK) »
I am researching this for a friend. Jane Dewar was born in Liff in 1899. It was believed she emigrated to Canada post 1917. I think I have her on the 1901 census in Longforgan with parents Alexander and Annie.  At the side there is a relevant record the Boston Passenger Lists but I don't have worldwide membership to Ancestry. Would someone be kind enough to look her up and let me know what details are on the passenger list please? Would help me to rule it in or out. Many thanks.

There is a Jane Dewar born 1901 who emigrated to Boston on the 20th April 1912. Is this the one?
She was with her parents David and Catherine plus siblings. Last address was Dundee.

Not the right person unfortunately though thanks for checking. The Jane I am looking for was definitely still in Scotland in 1917 as she had a child then.

Does the child go to Canada with her ?  Was she married or single when she immigrated ? Looking under Dewar would indicate she was single but just checking  ???

I don't know yet if she married before she left Scotland but no she didn't have her child with her - she was given up for adoption. It was just that the suggested record came up at the side so I wondered if it was the right person.

Now found she probably had another child in 1919! An online tree suggests emigration to Quebec to 1920 and a marriage to Jack Duncan.

While not everything is covered, you might want to check out https://familysearch.org/search - it does have some of the passenger lists.

-is it possible this is her?  Jean Dewar, arrived in 1920 aged 21, into port of Quebec but may have been heading to Ontario.

What about this for a possibility from Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935.

Jane Dewar Duncan
Age:   31   Estimated birth year:   abt 1897
Born   Scotland
Date of Arrival:   17 Jun 1928 on board the Antonia
From Greenock, Scotland

It says she has been in Canada before in 1927 and is touring.
