Just been reviewing the answers and its getting too complicated for me. Heywood do you think that John Wain is Isaac Wains father?

I wonder if Ann is the mummy that is why Joseph Goodwin was a witness because he was his half brother. I am unsure what part of Lancashire he was born in (was it Heywood?) but Isaacs daughter Ann by Phoebe ends up in Oldham, perhaps because there was already a connection with Lancashire.

He was born in Staffordshire but didn't Dave think he maybe (only maybe) the son of John whose wife remarried to the neighbour  :-\
Sorry, yes he was in Oldham- Heywood is just a ruse  :)

No, Richard has a son John with him in censuses, so no older John. ::)

No not now I have just looked again.

If it is Ann, the daughter of Richard, the marriage of Ann Wain and Isaac Goodwin took place in Macclesfield - 1846.
There are two births for Isaac Wain registered Chapel en le Frith - 1843 and -1844. Presumably, the youngest is the one with grandfather, Richard.

You may have to apply for the certificate to see re parent/s

According to a published tree, John who died was Richard's brother. There are several deaths for John.
Wain must have been the local family name!

Yes I could get the birth certificate but I have a feeling only the mummy`s name will be on (which would be a help) , as Issac wouldn`t fess up who was his daddy when he got married.
Sorry I am dipping in out of this as we have relatives around, but I am intrigued and puzzled no grey cells left today, how does John fit into it?

In 1851, Isaac is shown as the grandson of Richard Wain at Booth, Hartington.

Next door, Ellen is the wife of Abraham Naden, with J (could be I) and William Wain as Abraham's step-children. Ellen could be Isaac's mother. She was the wife of John Wain in 1841.

In 1861, Isaac is a lodger in Hartington.

David

I am quite confused also  ;) I think that John Wain is the brother of Richard. There is an 'I' stepson in 1851 who presumably is the son of John and Ellen Wain. He probably though isn't yours.

Thanks for that. But do you think as Isaac wouldn`t fess up who his daddy was when he married Pheobe Ellen Ferniough in 1864 that he would be ilegitimate.
