Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know.

It would appear then that your grandfather is in a 'common' grave but one that is not hugely populated.

I'm also pleased to see that Havering have gone above and beyond the call of duty and suplied you with what appears to be photos of the burial registers.

Exactly Dawn. It looks like Meryl retrieved the registers personally and took several photos so no information was missed. Which was a very kind act. But that was just "above". "Beyond" was getting the cemetery clerk to take a photo of the grave site for me. That bit is yet to come but I can't believe the kind offer. Have emailed my thanks right away. Very good news as well as I can now confirm my grandfathers final resting place.

That's a good result then Storm.  :)

Yes, I've come across "strangers" being buried in some of my ancestors graves if they were unpurchased. My great grandmother had a stillborn baby put in with her.

So when there are several people buried in the one grave plot, are all the tombstones still there?
Are only the last to be buried's tombstones?
