I've got Thomas Fransen  born abt 1859 in Netherlands and married and settled in Dundee. His parents were John Fransen and Williamina Scherichan. John was a ship's master, and Thomas was a ship's steward but that is all I know. Have tried Ancestry, and various other sites with no success. Most appreciated if anyone can help

A slight chance, but isn't this a possibility : Teunis Fransen, father Jan Fransen (on his birth cert : Franssen) en mother Wilhelmina Johanna Schuuring (on her birth cert : Schurink). This Teunis his father died in Zwartsluis on 13 April 1919 and his mother on  4 December 1895 also in Zwartsluis.

Today the 25th November 1859 before me Jacobus Bijnemer, alderman, officer of the civil state of the municipality Smilde, province of Drenthe, appeared : Jan Fransen, 34 years old, skipper, living in Zwartsluis, who declared that his wife Wilhelmina Johanna Schuuring, 30 years old, without occupation, gave birth to a child of the male gender on the 24th of this month at 7 pm at the home of the declarant on board of his ship, located in district (B ?) in the Hoofdvaart at Smilde, to which child he gives the forename : Teunis.
This declaration is made in the presence of Lubbertus Straatman, 78 years old, (gemeentebode : town messenger ?), living at Smilde and Pieter Woltman, 23 years old, clerk, living at Smilde. And the declarant en the witnesses signed this cert with me after the reading.
