Sorry.  Had to go do stuff.

Walter Thomas Hall is the name on the birth certificate and the one listed on bmd.  His mother is named  as Amy Hall previously Ellis.

Walter Hall senior is listed as a General Labourer.  The baby was born in King St and this is also the father's address.

Walter junior called himself Ellis all his adult life, but  Hall was stated as an alternative name on his death cert, which made me look at births of that name as I could only find his christening as Ellis.

Amy Ellis is stated in 1871 census as a spinster and her son Walter Elles ( not Ellis) , aged 5.

As Walter senior was just a labourer and there is no age for him, it look as if, like many of us when we find an illegitimate birth, you have hit a dead end with him. He was obviously disguising the lack of marriage when he registered the birth, I have similar examples.

I think you are mistaken about Amy being down as a spinster in 1871, it clearly shows she is married and Walter's name is spelt ELLIS

Thank you.  Yes, I got confused.  Amy married Laurence White ; it was on their wedding certificate that she is recorded as a spinster.

I am just confused about Walter Hall senior and the fact that Walter Thomas junior was registered on the 22nd May as Hall , but christened as Ellis on the 16th August 1865, The Parish of St. Peter, Rochester.  The home address registered on both events is King Street, Rochester.

Walter Hall is registered as a General Labourer on the birth certificate.  No other info on him except two The Parish of St. Peter, Rochester potential deaths.

Thanks so much for your help again  ;D

There is no mention of a father on the baptismal entry, only his mother Amy.

Was Walter definitely the informant on the birth certificate, or simply named as the father?
