Child Maintenance
« on: Monday 19 May 14 19:34 BST (UK) »
My g/grandmother applied for child maintenance in 1932 after my g/grandfather deserted her.

The newspaper article stated that they had married in London in 1901, however I can find no trace of this marriage.

Does anyone know if, at this time, proof of marriage would have to be given to the court or would they just take the 'say so' of the claimant.

I would have thought if it was a legal thing they would want proof. If you want to put their names on here a fresh pair of eyes might spot them.

I have posted previously about them.

Henry Clarke b.abt 1880 m. Maud (not sure of surname but stated as Thurloe/Thurlow on childrens birth certifcates although we think this was a previous married name) b.abt 1883

Newspaper article states married in London in 1901

The dates seem odd.   A marriage in 1901 but still children young enough to need maintenance in 1932 and also the possibility that it was her second marriage.   Maybe the newspaper got it wrong?

Have you found them in the 1911? What was his occupation?
