Wiesenberger from Vienna
« on: Friday 23 May 14 16:16 BST (UK) »
I thought my family were difficult before I started looking at my wifes family.  On both sides they have people from Europe.
I am now trying to find out anything I can about a Friedrich (Fritz) Wiesenberger, born 1876 in Vienna.  I have found him in the 1911 UK census but that is it.  It looks like Austrian records are hard to trace.  Any ideas?

Friedrich Wiesenberger Married Maud Marion Youngman (b. Norfolk) October 1903 Westminster
He died Jan 1913 Fulham London.
They had the following children:
Maud b. 1906
Ivah b. 1907
Fritz b. 1909
William H B. July 1911

Have a look at Family Search who have records for Europe :)

"It looks like Austrian records are hard to trace. "
who says this? ;)
there is also some online to find. question is WHERE you are have to search really.

do you have any details more for Vienna? would be good to have an old adress or the district, to make out the parish-church you need for to ask. also with such details you could ask at old Vienna registry dates 1904-1975. this would help then for getting more other details also.

Vienna grave search has 25 Wiesenberger. look if one of them can be a relative.
where they roman.cath.?

http://www.friedhoefewien.at/grabsuche_de?submitHidden=true&name=Wiesenberger&vorname=&friedhof=&jdb_von=&jdb_bis=&latitudeWGS84_y=&longitudeWGS84_x=
because there is one result also at jewish cemetery data base: http://friedhof.ikg-wien.at/search.asp?lang=en
many jews also converted that time!

As another Wiesenberger family history searcher, yes they were Roman Catholics.

I had looked and the information from Austria, as with other European countries, seems scarcer than British, hence I felt hard to trace.  But that is obviously because I don't know where to look.  However the friedhoefewien seems to only cover burials from the 1900's, and no Friedrich.

Wiesenberger in Austrian phonebook in this counties to find - how to see most in Upper-Austria, so looks for their orgin there:
  Oberösterreich (51)
  Salzburg (10)
  Niederösterreich (6)
  Steiermark (4)
  Wien (3)
  Kärnten (1)
http://www.herold.at/telefonbuch/wiesenberger/
in Vienna/ Wien only 3 results: http://www.herold.at/telefonbuch/wien/wiesenberger/

for a refined research for Vienna is needed at least a district to find the parish-church which will have his church-book-entry. also an adress would be of help, as there are historical registry-dates for the time 1904-1975 which can show some more family-details for those who stayed back.
the name Fritz is in documents stated as Friedrich, which is the correct form. Fritz is only a shortfrom normally not used in official documents.

Many thanks for this information, it is very helpful.
My ancestor used both Fritz and Friedrich and was confusing me.

here would be to find all parish-churches - in this case to take Vikariat Stadt/ Vikariat City.
under Dekanate (numbers show the district) all churches of a district. when you would know districtnumber you take then the same number for Stadtdekanat; example for district 1 - which has 1010 postalcode or district 21 has postalcode 1210 - you take Stadtdekanat 1 or 21 and you get all Parishchurches/ Pfarren in this districts.
http://www.erzdioezese-wien.at/site/menschenorganisation/pfarrenordengemeinschafte/vikariatedekanatepfarren
Vienna -> Vikariat Stadt: http://www.erzdioezese-wien.at/goto/vikariat/1/Vikariat_Stadt

for Vienna some is online meanwhile but also many is still under construction. in this case you can e-mail the parish-church directly to ask what is to find:
http://www.matricula-online.eu/?lang=en
-> To the registers -> Approve
-> AT Österreich / Austria -> AT-W Wien, rk Erzdiözese / rk archdiocese ->  Wien Stadt
-> take in list then the parish-church you need, number before church-name is the district
example 01., 02., and so on....when you find your church online you can click right side again the parish-church and take then in the list the churchbook for the time you need.
with some luck you caught an entry where the pastor did a good readable writing. ;)
