Possible missing family member
« on: Sunday 25 May 14 02:43 BST (UK) »
This is a difficult one  ???
Someone recently sent me a copy of a marriage certificate from 1917 Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
The marriage between Annie McIntyre Mckay age 20 (so date of birth would be around 1897) and James McDougal they were married 29 Dec Dennistoun, Glasgow.
Now the problem is that she names her father as being Alexander McKay (deceased) Private in the Black Watch..which going on the evidence is my grandfather ?? so could be that I have another aunt out there somewhere albiet an illegitimate one.  I think somewhere along the line someone called Lesley (won't use surname) just in case..presumably from Australia has at some stage made a similar enquiry but this is going back to 2003.  As you can imagine am a little bamboozled by the whole thing  ::) and am not quite sure where to start, have tried a general search on Ancestry but have not come across anything significant, I suppose I could try SP but do not have any evidence as to where she may have been born (the marriage cert is very had to read, mother poss Christina??) can anyone give me hand with this one as am quite lost.
As always regard Parvp

Hello patvp 1,
Ann McIntyre McKay was born 1896 at Blackfriars, Glasgow. (ScotlandsPeople) Leave you to use credits to check this birth.

Hi Pat

There is a medal roll record on Ancestry for an Pte Alexander McKay no 3/2899 Royal Highlanders (which I believe is the correct name for the Black Watch) killed 1st April 1915 who is a possibility. Unfortunately I couldn't find any further information

Andy

Hello patvp 1,
Ann McIntyre McDougall other name McKay died 1982 in Glasgow age 85yrs. Because it's less than 50yrs since her death, you won't be able to view death certificate on line. (Privacy reasons) I think a copy can be ordered though.
Good luck with your search. Regards,     Dod.

Thanks Andy - Yep that was my grandfather..have all his info (turning out to be quite a lad) you should read his service records  ;D  :o
Thanks Dod - Looks like she outlasted her half sisters apart from my Mum.
so on with the search her mother is Christina McAlpine who's mother is also a Christina McAlpine, but am leaving that for tomorrow, getting boggled eyed.
All the best Patvp

Is Alexander named as her father on her birth record?
