Hi,

In 1901 Census Charles Page States he was born St. Margarets Leicester.

You also know that at the time of his marriage he was in R.N.

National Archives has the following information:-

Charles Page Official Number 123176 born 29.5.1867 St. Margarets Leicester.

You can see this on:-
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D6652543

You can purchase these documents for £3.30 you get them by e-mail have used and it
is great system.

This said I can find no birth registration in Leicester or Leicestershire at this date.

Maybe Charles was registered under his mother's name?
Or the birth was registered elsewhere, and he just assumed he was born in Leicester?

Young Charles is proving difficult to locate?

There's a Charles West Page - but he is with a wife in 1901 & 1911!
There's a Charles Page, born in Cotesbach - also with a wife in later years!

So, maybe this one?

1871 census: Class: RG10; Piece: 3289; Folio: 91; Page: 16
1 North Gate Street, All Saints, Leicester

Page, Esther  Head  Married  F  42  Seamer of Hose  b Leicester
Page, John  Son  M  12  Nailer Shoe  b Southland
Page, William  Son  M  11  Brickmaker  b Leicester
Page, Charles  Son  M  9  b Leicester
Page, Elizabeth  Daughter  F  4  b Leicester
Page, Charlotte  Daughter  F  11 months  b Leicester

KG found this family in 1871,but I can't see a birth for any of them- maybe they were allergic to registering them  8)

And the girls seem to be in the workhouse in 1881. Although can't see a death for mum between 71 and 81.

Although this Charles is too old to be the one that Spendlove found in the Navy, born May 1867  ???

Hi

As per Kev's find . . . . .
    1871 census: Class: RG10; Piece: 3289; Folio: 91; Page: 16
1 North Gate Street, All Saints, Leicester

Page, Esther  Head  Married  F  42  Seamer of Hose  b Leicester
Page, John  Son  M  12  Nailer Shoe  b Southland
Page, William  Son  M  11  Brickmaker  b Leicester
    Page, Charles  Son  M  9  b Leicester
    Page, Elizabeth  Daughter  F  4  b Leicester
Page, Charlotte  Daughter  F  11 months  b Leicester

Northgate Street is a couple of streets away from St Margarets Church, St Margaret's Way
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.6408932,-1.1385966,17z

As per Spendlove's post . . . . .
Charles Page Official Number 123176 born 29.5.1867 St. Margarets Leicester.

So looking at tha age gaps between the 3 youngest children.
Charlotte Page 1870 Q3 Leicester 7a 243 (7m in 1871)
Elizabeth Page 1867 Q1 Leicester 7a 104 (4y in 1871)
Charles   Page 1864 Q3 Leicester 7a 165 seems the closest "match"

Hi,

1881 Census RG11/3146; Folio: 154; Page: 42;
Sheepshed Leicestershire

Page Charles 15 apprentice FWK (frame work knitter) Wool    born Leicestershire.

If you look at the actual Census Sheet, the place of birth is Leicester, Leicestershire.
Have submitted correction.

Odd because Frame work knitting ties in with his Father's stated occupation Hosier per
marriage certificate.
