Puttrill/Morris 1837 St. Peter Wisbech marriage lookup please
« on: Sunday 01 June 14 11:49 BST (UK) »
Hi, I can find the record of the marriage of Francis Puttrill/Alice Ann Morris on 8 Feb 1837 at St. Peter Wisbech and I believe they were widower and widow.

If anybody has access to the actual record I would dearly love to know her father's name on the entry as she is a brick wall at the moment.

Thanks in advance, Pheno

As this was prior to civil registration fathers' names won't be shown. What you'll get are the names of the witnesses.

There's more than one way of skinning a cat though.

The 1851 census shows a son in law ie stepson, in the household, William Morris age 21. The baptism index at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/searchsd.cfm shows a baptism of a William Morris in Wisbech in 1829 son of William and Alice. The IGI at www.familysearch.org has a marriage of William Morris and Alice Driver at Wisbech on 23 Sep 1828. The birth cert of one of the Puttrill children would confirm Alice's maiden name - there's a Francis born 1844 who also appears as one of their children in 1851

Transcript of the marriage says Francis was a 'bac', Alice Ann Morris was a 'wid'.  Both otp
Witnesses: Fletcher Putterill and Mary Ann Driver

Thanks very much for that Selina.

The fact that one of the witnesses was a Mary Ann Driver is good back up for the likliehood that Alice Morris was Alice Ann Driver.

Also have managed to find the 1805 baptism of an Alice Ann Driver in Shoreditch again backing up the 1851 census info that Alice Ann Puttrill was born about 1806 in London.

Thanks for you help.

Alice, 35
John, 3
Thomas, 2

All down as born in County

You may have all of this by now;

JAMES, 8 Aug 1803
ALICE ANN, 23 June 1805
EDWARD, 1 Feb 1807

Which led me to this;

Hust pottering around here;

I found a Tree with JAMES Driver dying 1842 age 67 (birth  1774 to James DRIVER/Ann CORNWALL)
Married to Elizabeth PURL 1796 Wisbech.

They have Children for James/Elizabeth as;
Thomas 1797
Sarah 1799
James 1803
Edward 1807
James 1815
David 1819

The James DRIVER who was Buried 21 Sept 1842, St Peter, Wisbech, was age 78 (birth c 1764)
Abode, Horse Fair Wisbeach St. Peter
(FreeREG)
Also on there is a ELIZABETH Driver Buried same Church, 3 Dec 1856, abode Old Horse Fair, age 90 (birth c 1766)

Now if this James/Elizabeth who Baptised David 1819 she would be age 53 ???
(Davids Baptism is on FreeREG + a James 1815)

THOMAS Driver married Susanna JONES, 25 Nov 1816, St Peter, Wisbech
They Baptised a ELIZABETH PURL Driver same Church, 4 July 1823

Thanks very much for all this info Trish - I hadn't got around to doing any research on it myself yesterday so I am very grateful thanks.

There is a Joseph Driver bapt. St. Leonard's Shoreditch 19 Aug 1810 to a James & Elizabeth Driver in Ancestry, London Baptisms (wonder why that is missed off the other list?) so this confirms the Joseph Driver/Sarah Griffin connection too.

Many thanks for taking me back a further couple of generations.
