Would be greatful for any information.

How sad for these children - according to a death certificate for Mary Ann posted on a public tree Mary  Ann died 22 April 1855, aged 36 when her children were aged 14 years - 18 months.

Mary Ann was born in Bampton Oxfordshire, and had been 15 years in Victoria so they came very early into the colony. Mary Ann and William had been married 20 years according to the death cert, marriage at Eddington, but perhaps a little earlier than 1839. Her parents: Thomas and Ann NORTH, warden of Witney Workhouse, Oxfordshire.

1852   death notice of the wife of William KNAPP. Geelong Advertiser.

As you see the actual name of the deceased is hard to read, however it does give her place of birth as I think Gloucester.  The couple were at  Point Henry which is near Geelong. The notice describes her as being from Shipp?lin county Gloucester England "Ithink"

There is a marriage certificate also on a public tree.  This marriage was at Headington, Oxfordshire not Eddington in Berkshire.

By Licence, September 24, 1839
Parish of Headington, county of Oxford
William KNAPP, bachelor, yeoman, father is John KNAPP, yeoman
Mary Ann NORTH, spinster, father: Thomas NORTH, parish officer
William signs his name, Mary Ann signs with a cross
Witnesses: Robert NEALE, Mary NEALE.
Both give their place of residence as Headington and both are of full age.

Comment: Headington/Eddington easily confused in spoken language.

Oh my, all of the public trees I looked at have some corrections to make  ;D  ;)

I'm thinking we have two William KNAPPs here - the date of death of the chap in the death certificate among the will papers found by Wivenhoe is definitely 1 December 1856, death caused by "upsetting of a spring cart".  Should there not have been an inquest??

Mary Ann's death cert as shown on the public tree is also clear in the date ( although some of the certificate is difficult to read).  She died from a hemorrhage caused by cancer.

This is another on NSW indexes, but not the right year.

Reg V1854757 41A/Yr 1854  Knapp William
Age 45

No inquest in Victoria in the name.

The man I have listed above as dying in 1869, is buried at Geelong Eastern Cemetery.

May 1856. In connection with local elections, William KNAPP’s name is listed in the Portland area as a carpenter. (per original posting)
