I'm looking for a Franz Xavier Herman married Marie Dietrich, about 1905ish

Both surnames are extremely common, so unless you know where they married it is impossible to find info.  There is no central BMD index.

Ahhh, that's what we need to progress!!  :)
I would suggest you write/email to the civil registry for the area (website here - in German only - http://www.afg.lu.ch/zivilstandsamt_luzern ) with all the details you have of them.  Ask for a quote to supply whatever they have on record, most likely a famlienschein, which is a valuable 'family record sheet' style.  It might appear expensive, but given the amount of info it provides it could be worth it.
