COMPLETED I wondered if someone could help with this German message.
« on: Wednesday 18 June 14 21:56 BST (UK) »
I was sent a book from Germany recently of what I think is a relative
Carl Friedrich Joseph Weddige the Germany Painter as one of his
grand-son appears to be my Hubby's grand-father.

The confusion is that I asked how much it was and how to make payment.

I received the book and then was given instructions on payment which was by
taking the letter into a bank and paying for a transfer.

I have building societies accounts not a bank therefore the bank said I could not
pay that way.

My building society said they would charge £3. 60 for the book and £25 for the transfer.
No way.

So the latest e-mail reads as below from the book seller.
Quote
these are really bad news. In this small amount the city of Rheine on the payment of the bill omitted. We give you the book for free.
But the case of publications based on this book, I beg your free sending a copy of this publication.

I would willingly pay for the book if I could but not sure what on earth the third line means.

T.I.A.

Sorry I too have no idea
What I do have is a German friend so if you want to PM me with what you want to email this person to clarify , ask, explain etc  and I can ask if she will translate into German for you which may make communication easier and them send me what they send back and I will ask her to translate into English

The other way is to ask if they have a paypal account ( easy set up with just an email address) and send money via paypal

I think it might mean "if you publish a book yourself using information in the book they've sent you, they'd like a copy of your book".

Drosybont: "if you publish a book yourself using information in the book they've sent you, they'd like a copy of your book".

That's correct - 100 %!

Thank you all so very much.

It is totally understandable now.

I can reply acknowledging their conditions and thank them
for the free gift gratefully received.

The story is a very romantic one.

please, in which country do you live?
is it UK?
normally within EU you can use IBAN and BIC for the payment without any costs more.  8)
and normally you get IBAN and BIC for transfer from Germany, so i do not understand the problem.

IBAN and BIC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBAN

I have looked at the links and they seem to all refer to Bank Accounts.

I do not have a Bank Account and the problem has been solved thank you.
