Hi everyone.  I am still trying to confirm that the Sarah Roddam who married Thomas Mason Peverly was either the Sarah Roddam Baptised in Allendale in 1831 (the daughter of George Roddam and Jane Hall) or  Sarah Roddam Baptised in May 1831 in Stanhope.  (Parents are listed here as John and Sarah).  I have also found the 1841 census that has a Sarah Roddam age 15 living with the above John and Sarah Roddam in Park Quarter Stanhope.  I guess this the same Sarah.

Can anyone shed a light on which Sarah is my 2nd Great Grandmother.  The only firm confirmed evidence I have is the 1851 Census where Sarah is a servant in Bishop Auckland and the 1861 Census where she is married to Thomas mason Peverley with three children - William, Margaret Ann and Elizabeth Ann.  Hope someone can assist....Thanks  Peter Buckley

Have you looked at the Sarah Roddom in Greencroft, Durham in 1841?

Hannah Roddom   20 Independent.  Born in County? N
Mary  Roddom  9 months  Born in County ?  Y
Sarah Roddom   13 Born in County?   N
Thomas  Roddom  20 Born in County?  Y

Not sure that helps you confirm which Sarah married Thomas though without the m/c.

Could this be your George?

Thank you for this information Jomot.  I will take a look at this Sarah Roddam from Greencroft.....So many Sarah Roddams to choose from.  That is also interesting information on George Roddom.  I wonder if it is the right George...Sarah's father.  Certainly the right locality and time.  My George would have been about 33 yo, so near to the same age given that stated ages varied quite a lot in the 1800s.....If you come across any other information please let me know....Many thanks

Durham Records Online have what looks like the baptism of the 9 month old Mary Roddam found in Greencroft in 1841.   I haven't looked at the full record but place of abode was Bents Head

Hi again,  I looked up Bents Head. It is in the Weardale area.  So once again this could be the correct Sarah.  I think I have to try and obtain the marriage certificate for Thomas Mason and Sarah.  Would this have Sarah's parents names on it?  They were married in 1856 at the Darlington Register Office.  I am in Australia so its a little difficult for me to check ant info unless its on the inter web....Many thanks for you assistance so far....Peter Buckley

The marriage certificate should name her father and his occupation  :)

I will bite the bullet and order a marriage certificate tomorrow.  There is one from the Durham Register Office for Thomas Peverley and Sarah Roddam in 1856.  It should tell me if Sarah's fathers name was George or John.  That will at least solve that problem.  Would be nice if it had Sarah's mothers name as well.  I'll let you know how it goes....Regards...Peter Buckley

OK, I now have in my hands the Entry of Marriage for Thomas Mason Peverley and Sarah Roddam.  And Sarah's parents are.......John Roddam of Darlington Co Durham (Stone breaker) and wife Sarah.  Oh well a tree rewrite is in order.
