cannot find family after 1881 census!
« on: Friday 27 June 14 22:07 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I wonder if anybody has any ideas on this one -  In 1881 this family were living at 10 Goldsmith Street, Nottingham:

William Lawrence aged 30  Organist and music Teacher  born  Lincoln
Mary A Lawrence aged 31                                             born London
Marshall Wm Lawrence aged 6                                      born Lincoln
Bernard J Lawrence aged 3 months                               born ?
Catherine Rainey  aged 14 ( servant )

I cannot find them anywhere in the 1891 census.  Marshall appears to have joined the Navy as I have located him in 1901, but cannot find the rest of the family at all.

As they were last living in Nottingham I thought it sensible to ask for help here, look forward to hearing anybody's thoughts on the whereabouts of this family.

Gill

There's a Bernard Lawrence boarder from St Helens age 21 in Huddersfield in 1901.

Later he is with wife Elizabeth and daughters Nellie & Winifred.  Oldest daughter born Huddersfield.

Thank you to you both, yes, these would seem likely to be Bernard Lawrence.  I wonder where they were hiding in 1891?

Thanks, yes I had seen that entry for Marshall Lawrence. He seemed to be easier to find than his parents.  :)

I can only think that there has been a transcription error which would make William and Mary A Lawrence difficult to find.  I have tried various spellings without any success...

Have just noticed your link for Marshall's naval record - thank you, that may well be worth a look.
