Charles Stuart arrived 1903, married Elizabeth McDonald in 1907
« on: Saturday 28 June 14 21:10 BST (UK) »
My great Uncle, Charles Stuart, born Youghal 1833, left Ireland and arrived in NZ in 1903 on the SS Paparoa.  From the online NZ BMD website I think that he married Elizabeth McDonald in 1907 and had at least 3 children, Reginald William Charles, 1909, Jane Scott, 1910 and George Alexander, 1913.  There could be more siblings but the BMDs do not go further.  However, a Pedigree Resource File from Doug Stuart and June Honey on the LDS site familysearch.org has different info.  Can anyone help clarify and provide any further info please.  Thanks

Hi,did Charles have a middle name? I don't see a death in NZ that would fit with the 1833 birth and he would have been 70 when he arrived in NZ quite old to be getting married

Cheers Janette

Hi,

The only way to prove that it is your Charles Stuart is to purchase the Marriage Printout.    What makes you think it is your chap that married in 1907?

Hi,

The only sighting I can see of a Reginald Charles William Stuart is a school record.   This chap was admitted to Harrisville School (Tuakau) on the 3 February 1914.  Birth date 24 December 1908.  Looks like his family left the district.

Reginald William Charles, 1909, Jane Scott, 1910 and George Alexander, 1913

That means Charles was 80 when the last one was born.  :o

My great Uncle, Charles Stuart, born Youghal 1833,

It's a typo - the Chas Stuart who sailed on the Paparoa and arrived in NZ in 1903 was born in 1883 and was a farmer.  ;D ;D

The birth should read 1883 as the poster has also posted on the Cork board :)
