I don’t know if there’s a connection may just be a coincidence there’s a
Fredk Wm Wheeler age 7 born c1884 Bath with his grandparents and their surname is ROWLANDS they are living Oldfield Park Terrace, Sydenham Road, Bath, Somerset in 1891

I'm not seeing a FWW mmn Rowlands  on Bath BMD although there is one for a
Frederick William Wheeler in 1883 BUT his mother's maiden name is BAILEY  :-\
there's this marriage in 1881 Bath Register Office WHEELER Charles / BAILEY Emily

Frederick William Wheeler was baptised in 1894, with parents recorded as Frederick William and Enna [sic] and DOB 27 Jan 1884. If his parents didn't baptise him at the usual time perhaps they didn't register the birth either. Or perhaps there's a mistake in BathBMD; there's another Wheeler/Bailey child registered in the same quarter in a different sub-district of the city. Unless there was another Wheeler/Bailey couple something must be wrong.

Just noticed Edwin Charles was baptised at the Abbey at the same time as Frederick William, with the same parents and DOB 27 Feb 1886.  Address for both was 10 Helting Court.

In 1911, this Bath Edwin Wheeler was living in Kensington, 42 Bramber Rd, and hired as footman by George Vanderbilt and died in 1912 on the Titanic.

No other Edwin Wheeler fits the bill as far as age, occupation or marital status in 1911, so I hope to find a living relative who will either share DNA or know where Edwin worked in London.

Interesting that he was possibly known as ''Fred''  and there's a picture

Great find David your link is showing the baptism of a Elizabeth Francis Hay Harris

So I’ve added the links from FreeREG for

Edwin Charles Wheeler
http://www.rootschat.com/links/016zv/

Frederick William Wheeler
http://www.rootschat.com/links/016zw/

from Bath BMD

1892 WHEELER   Frederick           33    Walcot - First Series   Bath
1898 WHEELER   Frederick William   14   Walcot - First Series   Bath

This is the only death I'm seeing for Emma Wheeler which would be a close match to the year
born as per 1891c

1913 WHEELER   Emma          60  Lyncombe/Widcombe - First Series   Bath

Do you have the d/c for Emma's husband, if so who was the informant?

Referring back to the 1891 census where Fredk Wm WHEELER is living with his grandparents
John & Eliza ROWLANDS there is also two step daughters Annie & Sarah with the surname COTT

This 1896 marriage at Bath Register Office maybe worth investigating to see if Eliza also had a daughter named Emma

CANE    Frank    COTT     Emma
CANE    Frank   WHEELER   Emma

Mmm... if it was the same Emma she's taken 10 years off her age
(as per 1891 census Emma WHEELER nee ROWLANDS was aged 38 born 1853 Bath Somerset)

1901c Frank CANE & Emma age 38 (born c1863 Twerton, Somersetshire)
are living 4, Church Street Bath Somerset

see link below for 1871 census shows
John & Eliza living with them a daughter named Emma age 16 born c1855 Twerton also daughters Annie & Sarah & son Thomas age 9,
all have surname ROWLANDS
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VFJB-CLM?cc=1538354

1881c John, Eliza, Annie, Sarah & Thomas Rowlands
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X3YW-WHJ

trying to see if I can find a Rowlands or Cott family on 1861c
Annie Rowlands/Cott born c1859 Somerset

ok found Annie with surname Cott &  Emma living Bristol Road, Tiverton, Bath, Somerset
Thomas COTT age 69 Grocer, ELIZA  42 West Ashton Wiltshire,
children
EMMA age 5 (1856) Twerton Somerset, ANN age 2 (1859) Twerton & Lucy 14 days Twerton

I could only find this marriage but the date is in 1858 Bath Register Office

COTT Thomas   MITCHELL     Eliza
COTT    Thomas   RAWLINGS Eliza

death 1865
COTT Thomas age 73   (1792)  Abbey Bath

1841 c there is an

Eliza MITCHELL age 25 living Devonshire House, Lyncombe & Widcombe, Bath, Somerset noted as born in this county –  shame 1841 census doesn’t give a marital status

E RAWLINGS age 20 living Elm Place, Lyncombe & Widcombe, Bath, Somerset
but looking at the original census the initial looks more like a 'C', she's not born in this county

Thomas COTT occ. Grocer age 45 living Fieldings Buildings, Twerton, Bath, Somerset he's noted as not born in this county
also at the same address are Ann & John Cott both age 20 both born in this county

So I’ve added the links from FreeREG for

Edwin Charles Wheeler
http://www.rootschat.com/links/016zv/

Frederick William Wheeler
http://www.rootschat.com/links/016zw/

The FreeREG database was updated last night. I didn't think that would affect the link but it seems it has.

I also corrected the errors (Edwin was baptised on the 4th Feb, not the 9th, and the address is Helting Court, not Hetling Court) but the recompilation must have already started so those changes won't show until next month.

Wonderful information! Thank you so much.

This is a recent website that resparked the Wheeler fire and the possibility of a sibling, Lily, that lived.
http://luxurylinerrow.com/titanic-mystery-eric-sauder-brian-hawley/   However, without verification of this Edwin’s whereabouts between 1901 census (at Highbury House with several other lads as boarders/errand boys) and 1909, it’s still just a guess that he is my grandfather.

I’m waiting for MC and DC of Frederick Wheeler/Rowlands and Lily Wheeler/Mitchell to see parents names and informant.

Radstockjeff, thanks for the Post Office Directory check. Interesting that the 1912 list of Titanic passengers gives 4 Melcombe Rd, Durley Pk, Bath as Edwin’s last abode.

Keyboard86, thanks for the birth and death info. This was not a very healthy family. Poor Emma. I wonder what happened to her.

David, the 1894 baptisms of Fred W and Edwin were after the death of their father.  Both their births are registered with GRO, parents Fred and Emma. Someone must have thought they needed baptizing at 8 and 10 yrs of age before entering school, workhouse?

Ladyhawk,  thanks for finding the connections between COTT/ROWLANDS/CANE. I’m going to wait till I receive certificates from GRO and organize this information.
