What makes you think that John may be Henry?

I am afraid I have completely lost the plot on who we are looking for here so I will drop out and not add to the confusion with more questions :)

Your last messages are a bit confusing.

This is what I found:

George French married Eliza Mary Bailey in 1917.
His father is named as John.
George was 24 yrs old on the marriage certificate which gives a year of birth of 1893.

The difficulty is finding a family with a George b 1893 and a father John.

Do you think this part though is correct?

There are these births with surname FRENCH mother’s maiden name BAILEY on FreeBMD due to the dates they are born I have not named them fully

G A Mar 1927 Leiwsham (male)
D M Mar 1930 Lewisham (female)
L E Mar 1932 Lewisham (female)
S H Sep 1937 Lewisham (male)
J Mar 1940 Lewisham (male)

Here’s the link so you can have a look http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Do they relate to your French family?

From what I can see some of these are much later than you would expect from a marriage in 1917.
If you look at Free BMD for the people you name, and you are sure they are the right family, would you post the years of birth.
Don't name anyone who is still alive because of Rootschat rules but you can give years of birth.
It is still confusing.
