I must thank you for all this. I have only just seen the latest reply to this thread owing to sporadic logging on.
I think the mystery is becoming less of a mystery.
Can anyone suggest why a toll collector / contractor / commercial traveller might keep referring to himself as a gentleman – that happens a few times in this family?
Beyond that, would anyone want to help tracing this family further back? For instance, Elizabeth senior does not have a maiden name yet...
