I had a quick look, but there were plenty of John Stephens' to choose from, none that I could see had the occupation "Shearer" so without more info it's a pretty hopeless case.

Do you have any further info at all?  Age and/or residence in 1841 for example.

Regards

Caro

Hi Caro
Thanks for the reply this is the info I have- 1840 John Stephens  daughter Margaret b 1820 census information gives two different places for her birth  one is- Penderyn Brecknock the other is Llanguicke  Glamoegan I believe that is in the Neath area.
In 1840 Margaret married in Penderyn church and that is where it states her Father John is a shearer. I have Margaret with her husband Howell Morgan on the 1851 census they have now moved to Pontypridd area Howell worked as a baller in the iron works .
Will this help to look at all the John Stephens?

Hi Cardiff

It helps a little.

Knowing  that his daughter was born in 1820 it would seem likely that John Stephens himself was born prior to 1802 (assuming he was at least 18 when his daughter was born).  A search in the 1851 Glamorgan census for all the John Stephen/s born prior to 1802 produced only 7.  None of them were Shearers

I can't find a John Stephen/Stephens who was a shearer in the 1841 Glamorgan census eitherand I suspect that as his daughter married in Penderyn and was possibly born there that if John Stephens was still alive in 1851 he may well have been living in Breconshire rather than Glamorgan.

Regards

Caro
