Thanks for the christening and marriage info for this family - George born abt 1834 (using the age from 1853 shipping info) might be a cousin and not a brother - as you said will need to find the family in census however it gets confusing with families having same names. It is all so intriguing - Thomas (b 1827) - his daughter Louisa is my connection in Australia       Thomas owned land and bred Hereford cattle and the name of his property 'Fairview' in Corop Victoria Australia became the name of Louisa's home 'Fairview' in Essendon (suburb of Melbourne)

Jo - 1841 census should have   Thomas and Ann and children - John 16, Thomas 14, William 12, Mary Ann 10, George 7 - is there an address - perhaps Thomas might have died leaving Ann with two younger children = as per the info you found

1851 might be different because the sons would be older
- John married ?? and Thomas married 1852         1861 - three boys had gone to Australia 1853

Jo - Victor has just provided a clue why Thomas and his son Thomas might be missing off 1841 - the 1852 marriage of Thomas (son) says that he and his father (Thomas) were mariners - think that means they are at sea    The marriage also says that John and Elizabeth Powles were witnesses - they will be Thomas (son) brother and wife so that confirms that John was married prior to Sept 1852  .......................A

Great - thanks for info and now a sister for Emma     Any clues on Thomas Powles, the shipping info now has me curious - looks like two brothers and one wife travelled with Thomas and his wife to Australia - I will now search for them in Australia    regards and thanks again ............. Alison
