If that is the correct family in 1911, with the mention of the death of Joseph, it looks as if his parents were the ones married in 1874 according to this birth. So if your ancestor is the one married to Georgina, I dont think it is the one in the 1911.

William ,the tailor is in Rochdale in 1901. He is married but no wife. There is a housekeeper, Elizabeth Whitehead who has several children.
Meanwhile, a married Georgina is in Salford as a housekeeper to a married Thomas Bennett.

Confusing  :)

Simon,
Hope you come back to let us know about this confusion. On a recent post elsewhere you said you are in the middle of a big stage of research but it is good for helpers to know the outcome.

Hello

I think the confusion comes from the fact that there are two Williams. I think my William is the one married to Georgina, as I found online a marriage certificate to a William Steel and Georgina Ratcliffe in Lancashire, the father of William is James Steel, which is correct

Also William was a tailor, not a farmer, so I believe I was mixing them up by accident.

Interesting though that William and Georgina did not have any children

At least it is sorted now re William. Although they look to be separated by 1901.
