My ancestor Francis Steel was born in 1776 in Stapleton, Cumberland to John Steel. Whom did he marry and when did he die?

I have checked the records and so far I found nothing

my thanks

That looks like picking people with the right names to make something fit.

If we accept the 1809 marriage we find the non-conformist baptism of one child - Thomas - at Broughton in 1811.

In 1841 we find in Broughton (not Grinsdale, which is near Carlisle)
Mary 50
Thomas 30 Shoemaker

Perhaps Francis dead already?

In 1851 (Great Broughton again)
Mary STEELE (wid) 64 Gt Broughton
Thomas 39 Shoemaker Journeyman, Gt Broughton

The IGI even has a 1787 non-conformist baptism for Mary BURNEY at Broughton.

No need to dash from one end of Cumb to the other and back again to make things fit.

Was it the right Francis STEEL?  That's something I can't answer.  :-\

Could be him, but how can we be sure?

Then again, it is the only marriage that could be Francis

Mary STEEL seems to have died in 1880 "aged 94".

... or that could be the one who was aged 15(+) in the 1841 census, also in Great Broughton.  His mother was Elizabeth.  I can't see him in 1851 or later.

Perhaps 1822 Maryport, son of Richard and Betty https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3CX-ZVV

His father was John, not Richard and his mother's name is unknown, it is possible he was illegitimate
