Clapton
« on: Tuesday 15 July 14 18:06 BST (UK) »
Hello I am confused could you help me please. I have a John Clayton born 1804. On the 1851 census it says he was born at West wratton cambs. I took this for West Wratting but cannot find him. I looked into West wratton but could only find a West Wratton Park, it's not a village, it's between Linton and Cambridge. I am looking for Johns parents
Thank you

Hi I presume from the 1851 his surname is Clayton not Clapton as your header, in 1841 he is Claydon, no help with his birthplace, but did he marry a Frances Sargeant/Sargent, as their are amendments to the 1841 on Ancestry to that effect?

Hello, thank you for reply. Why I put Clapton I do not know sorry about that. I believe you are right and this is the right person. I have noticed the name could have been Claydon. The only thing that is putting me off is the fathers name Luke it doesn't seem to have carried on. I will look into this family and see if any of the family names are carried on. I have him married to a Frances Bendal from horningsea.

Frances Bendal married Thomas Sargent on 16 Jul 1821 at Horningsea.

A Thomas Sargent aged 27 was buried in Horningsea in 1825.

Frances Sargent married John Clayton on 7 Feb 1826 at Horningsea.

In 1851 John Clayton was 47 born West Wratting, married to Frances 47 b Horningsea. If the age is accurate then he was born between Apr 1803 and Mar 1804. A baptism on 1 May 1803 at a few weeks old fits perfectly. There are no other John Clay... in West Wratting on the Cambs FHS Baptism index 1801-37. I wouldn't worry unduly about John not naming a son Luke. It's certainly not sufficient to rule out this baptism
