1871 Woolwich is in the London census. Not in Kent. That is why I asked.

Hi Pauline,
There are 2 Charles Browns of around the right age in Woolwich:-
Charles Brown  19  Soldier  B-Halston, Kent
Charles Brown  19  Ward Son (Vagrant Ward)  Place of birth not stated
I've found Charles' father still in Thatcham living with his daughter Elizabeth, but no sign of Charles.
Could one of these be yours?
Ange
Will go and look for Cathrine now
researching: Evans, Smith, Soundie, Brookfield, Frost, Douglas, Heron, Weaver,Redmond, Blackford, Furmedge & McKittrick

I'm back,
Sorry the only Cathrine Fitzgerald in Woolwich is 59 and from Ireland.
I was going to look in Monmouth for her but that part of Wales hasn't been added to Ancestry yet, Sorry :-\

Just got hold of a marriage cert.

In July 1872. Charles was 22, Driver in Royal Horse Artillery , and resided at the Woolwich barracks.

Catherine was 21 (more like 17/18), a spinster of 12 Wood Street (Woolwich)
