Birth Certificate - help please
« on: Thursday 24 July 14 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

could someone help me understand what is wrote in box 8 - next to father's name.  It looks like "his x mask" to me but that makes no sense.  Thanks  :)

It's

his
X
mark

meaning that the father "made his mark" by writing the X (instead of a signature - this was how people signed if they could not write their name)  and the registrar has confirmed by the writing on either side that it was his (the father's) mark.
