Hi Bob

Just checked the B.C Death indexes online and so far the deaths only go up to 1984. Each year they add another year. So in Jan. 2006 they will add 1985.

Hi, Bob, I see that I forgot to give you district 21 Provencher as the main district... those were subdistricts. Sorry!

Hi Stonechat

Your SMITH family may be the SMITHs found on the indexed 1911 census for Winnipeg

http://allcensusrecords.com/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-24-2.shtml

and

http://allcensusrecords.com/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-24.shtml

There's a link from those pages to the online images, just note the page, district and subdistrict your SMITH names are on -- and view those speicifc pages for the images.

Hope they are yours!

You mentioned Samuel H Edwards enlisting in WW1 and said his parents were in Sask. when he enlisted. I don't know what source you used, but Samuel's WW 1 Attestation papers are online and they don't agree with your notes.

Samuel Henry Edwards says his father George William Edwards is living in --- (Minetti?? I don't know MB place names so not sure what town it is) Manitoba. This was in July 1915

You can send for Samuel's complete file by FAX or SNAIL MAIL (no other way accepted).  Go here "How to consult a file on-site or order a copy of the complete file " http://www.archives.ca/02/0201060101_e.html#consult

If you think anyone else in the family might have enlisted in the CEF you can search it at http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html

Yes my note was inaccurate

His parents were in Ninette (Manitoba?) on his attestation, but on his death a year later were in Vandura, Saskatchewan

There are also two  possible land claims under George W Edwards , though these numbers drive me mad (township, range etc) that I could get at the same time

Bob,

This puzzle has me quite interested! So I had a little look on OUR ROOTS/NOS RACINES website and found an online book for Ninette Manitoba.. " And so Ninette : 1879-1919 " You can search it at

http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.asp?id=4917

In it is mention of an "Alyce Edwards" in which she mentions her "handicap" and her father's roses....

http://www.ourroots.ca/e/viewpage.asp?ID=1050066&size=2

There is a photo of George Edwards here along with "Fin. Yellowlees" and the Ninette School

http://www.ourroots.ca/e/viewpage.asp?ID=1050162&size=2

And here mention of the Ninette School and George Edwards being hired as caretaker
in 1910 at $85.00/year (It also mentions Finley Yellowlees as caretaker 1907 - the same man in the photo with George)

http://www.ourroots.ca/e/viewpage.asp?ID=1050172&size=2

Then there is a brief writeup about "S. Edwards" on the WW1 Cenotaph in Ninette - and it mentions that George Edwards lived across the track in a home built by Ed Chester, they are now in Vancouver, with their daughter Alice who is a parapleigic

That is fantastic eillo

I have now managed to find this branch of the Edwards family in Ninette in the 1911 Census
George Rose and Alice are together, Samuel, aged 14 is staying on the farm he is working at
(He is the one killed at Vimy in WW1)
