Very confusing one this;

When Amelia HARRISON Marries Richard WEST, 5 June 1870 Newington, Surrey, she names her Father as James HARRISON, Occp Gilder
Abode for her at this time 9 Elliss Square*** (see 1871 Census below)

1851 Census
7 Brandon Street,
Newington, Surrey
HO107/1568/388/13
James HARRISON, 30, Head, Mar, Gilder, born Cow Crop, Middlesex
Amelia, 20, Wife, Mar, born Kent Road, Surrey
JAMES, 11mths, Son, born St George, Surrey

1871 Census
10 Elliss Square,***
St Mary Newington, Surrey
RG10/622/20/40
Ammeli HARRISON, 39, Head, Widow, Laundress, born Surrey
James Harrison, 28, Son, Unm, Porter, born Surrey
George CRAMP, 35, Lodger, Unm, Waiter, born Middlesex

1881 Census with Amelia and Richard WEST is;
Emelia PARKER, 50, Mar, Mother in Law, Laundress, born Camberwell, Surrey (1831)

Name: Amelia Harrison
[Amelia Startin]
Gender:    Female
Marital Status:    Widowed
Marriage Date:    3 Feb 1873
Marriage Place:    St. John'S, Walworth, Surrey, England
Father: James Startin
Spouse: William Nicholson Parker
FHL Film Number:    291744
Reference ID: it 2 p94 n187

So Amelia Startins Father was a James.

EMELIA Startin Baptised 1 Aug 1830, Saint Mary Newington, Parents JAMES/ELIZA, abode Kent Road, fathers Occp Warehouseman.

Off for now my head hurts!

Hi Ray, Thank you for your search.
It is possible,Arthur James Startin(b1850), Mother Amelia Startin (b1831).

Amelia Startin /"married?"/ James Harrison (b1821) = when did they marry?

Daughter Amelia Harrison 1853-1934

Father James Startin occupation = Singer, Mother Amelia Startin formerly "Harrison" when did they marry?

If my Arthur James Harrison is my Gt.Grandfather, can it be explained why his birth certificate states Arthur James Startin? assuming I have the right person.

Regards Ian
